Job summary

MCERT, Wellington, is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead the planning and delivery of complex, high‑risk projects that directly support ministerial and organisational priorities. You will coach project leads and coordinators, collaborate with government agencies and external partners, and drive governance and decision‑making in a fast‑moving environment.

You will manage project scopes, roadmaps and delivery plans, applying agile and traditional PM practices to realise outcomes.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading complex programmes or projects in large organisations.
• Proven track record delivering policy, implementation, transformation or business change initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile approaches.
• Excellent planning, prioritisation and risk management capabilities.
• Outstanding facilitation and workshop design skills.
• Ability to influence and build credibility with senior leaders and governance groups.
• Strong coaching and mentoring experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Pragmatic, solutions-focused approach in changing environments.

About The Role

As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead the planning and delivery of complex, high-risk projects that contribute directly to ministerial and organisational priorities. You'll work across business groups, government agencies and sector partners, bringing together diverse teams to deliver outcomes in a fast-paced and evolving environment. Your ability to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities and maintain a strong delivery focus will be key to your success. This is a highly collaborative leadership role where you'll not only manage projects but also build capability by coaching project leads, project managers and coordinators while supporting effective governance and decision-making.

Salary range

Salary range for this role is $142,185 to $172,853 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
