Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Join us at Fulton Hogan. We're on the lookout for a seasoned Senior Project Engineer to be a driving force in our Contracting team in Auckland. This isn't a back-room role – you'll be right at the coalface, leading day-to-day project engineering and site delivery, and partnering with our Project Manager to safely and efficiently deliver standout civil construction projects. Your work will directly shape how people move around Támaki Makaurau/Auckland, as you help us create, connect and care for communities by delivering safer, more reliable, future-focused infrastructure.

About the role

You'll be the go-to technical and commercial lead on our construction projects, working shoulder-to-shoulder with the Project Manager and wider contracting team in a hands-on, site-based role where no two days look the same, splitting your time between planning and problem-solving in the office and making things happen out on site. You'll own the safe, efficient and productive delivery of works, making sure every job hits the mark – to spec, on time and on budget – while connecting the dots between design, delivery and dollars, keeping people safe and standards high. Your leadership will set the tone, driving team culture, safety, quality and performance, and directly influencing the long-term success of our projects, our clients and our business.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead project teams to successfully plan, execute and deliver civil construction projects that you're proud to put your name to
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the project site, keeping a close eye on progress, tackling issues early and keeping works on track and on programme
  • Champion Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental standards – driving a "zero harm" mindset, ensuring pre-starts are done right, risks are identified and controlled, and company procedures are lived, not just ticked off
  • Prepare and manage project documentation – programmes, correspondence, cost estimates and records – with a focus on accuracy, clarity and timely completion to support great decision-making
  • Schedule works and procure contractor services, bringing your technical know-how and practical problem-solving skills to the table whenever challenges arise
  • Drive continuous improvement by challenging the status quo, identifying safer, smarter and more efficient ways of working, then sharing those ideas so the whole team lifts its game
We're looking for someone with
  • A Bachelor of Civil Engineering (or similar tertiary qualification), ideally NZQF Level 7/8, from a recognised institution
  • Around 7+ years' experience delivering mid to large-scale roading or civil construction projects, ideally within a contracting environment where you've worn the "boots on the ground" and "project lead" hats
  • Strong working knowledge of project management principles, site operations and current civil construction legislation in New Zealand, with the confidence to apply it day-to-day
  • A solid understanding of core civil engineering principles and a sharp eye for what "good practice" looks like on site – and the courage to call it out when it's not happening
  • Proven leadership capability – you set high standards, communicate clearly, back your people and build trust, so others respect you and want to follow your lead
  • Real commercial nous, with experience managing risk, cost and productivity so projects are delivered to spec, in full, on time, every time – while still building strong, long-term client relationships

At Fulton Hogan, we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and grow with us. You'll have access to:

  • Medical insurance and Life insurance after the eligibility period
  • KiwiSaver employer contributions after service milestones, up to 7%
  • Parental leave top-up payment with additional return-to-work support
  • Ongoing training and development, with clear career growth and progression opportunities
  • Great discounts at a wide range of retailers
