Job summary

PwC New Zealand’s Office of General Counsel seeks a Senior Legal Counsel – Data Privacy to provide commercially focused advice across privacy, data protection, AI, technology and information security matters. You will work closely with senior leaders, lead complex negotiations and help strengthen privacy governance, policies and training.

You bring 5–10+ years of legal counsel experience, a New Zealand practising certificate and a pragmatic approach balancing risk and business outcomes.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of legal counsel experience in privacy or data protection.
• Current New Zealand practising certificate.
• Commercially pragmatic approach balancing legal risk and business outcomes.
• Experience reviewing and negotiating technology, data, client or supplier agreements.
• Strong communication, drafting and problem-solving skills.
• In-house experience and AI clause negotiation in AI-enabled contracts advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Act as PwC NZ’s Privacy Officer.
• Lead and support complex data privacy negotiations in client and supplier contracts.
• Advise on data incidents, AI governance, technology risk and contractual risks.
• Review and negotiate client master service agreements and other commercial arrangements.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in privacy, AI and data protection.
• Identify and escalate legal and regulatory risks.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to legal templates, playbooks and training.
