Job summary

ABB is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer in New Zealand, onsite in Auckland or Napier, to lead high-power converter development for UPS and energy storage. You will define system architectures, drive simulations, and mentor engineers across multi-site teams.

You will collaborate with control and mechanical engineers, contribute to safety and reliability standards, and travel occasionally to Hawkes Bay as needed. This role sits in ABB's Critical Power unit.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of power electronics design and development.
• Experience with high-power converter architectures and energy storage systems.
• Strong modelling and simulation proficiency (SPICE/PLECS/MATLAB/Simulink/PSCAD).
• Knowledge of power semiconductor devices, magnetics, filters, and thermal design.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of high-power converter systems, defining architectures and control strategies.
• Review designs, calculations, simulations and test plans; mentor junior engineers.
• Drive DFMEA activities to identify and mitigate failure modes early in development.
• Ensure compliance with UL, IEC, RoHS, REACH and customer requirements.
