Job summary

ABB Napier, New Zealand is seeking an experienced engineer to lead the development and testing of advanced power conditioning technologies. The role focuses on UPS, battery energy storage, and voltage conditioning systems, requiring strong problem-solving skills and collaborative engineering across multi-disciplinary teams.

You will own testing protocols, drive improvements, and contribute to the technology roadmap while working onsite in Napier to support energy infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years designing/maintaining power electronic systems in specialist teams.
• Strong understanding of three-phase systems and power electronics.
• Experience with grid-connected power electronics and energy storage expected.
• Ability to communicate with control engineering teams for seamless integration.
• Proven track record leading engineering projects and mentoring juniors.

Responsibilities

• Conduct functional, performance, and safety testing on UPS, BESS, AVC, and SFC systems.
• Contribute to design, analysis, and validation of power conditioning and energy management systems.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation including test procedures and interface specifications.
• Plan and execute system commissioning activities on customer sites.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults and power quality issues; propose improvements.
• Build deep expertise in ABB's power conditioning portfolio and stay current with tech trends.
