Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are excited to offer a fixed-term opportunity for a Senior Portfolio Adviser within Infrastructure & Digital Assets (IDA). This role sits within the Portfolio Management Office Team and contributes to the delivery of key initiatives across Digital.

This is a unique opportunity to join the team for a defined period and play a key role supporting some of our highest priority investment planning and assurance activities. This opportunity is focused on a specific part of the broader Senior Portfolio Adviser role, rather than the full breadth of responsibilities outlined in the position description. It has a particular focus on helping strengthen the front end of the investment lifecycle, ensuring strategic initiatives are well-defined, investment-ready, and supported by robust decision-making information.

Working closely with business stakeholders, Product Groups, Finance and the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office, you will support investment planning activities, review investment proposals and business cases, and provide advice and assurance to help improve the quality of investment decisions.

In this role you will also have the opportunity to:

  • Review investment cases, proposals and supporting information, providing advice on quality, completeness and readiness for decision making.
  • Coordinate and contribute to investment planning activities, including investment tailoring, risk assessments and benefits planning.
  • Provide constructive challenge and assurance on investment assumptions, evidence and recommendations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Digital investment pipeline and contribute to capital and in-year planning activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of investment management practices across the Digital portfolio.

This role would suit someone with strong investment, portfolio, programme or project management experience, and a proven ability to bring structure, clarity and practical advice to complex or emerging initiatives.

You will be confident working with senior stakeholders, navigating ambiguity, asking the right questions and constructively challenging information, assumptions or evidence where this will help strengthen investment decisions.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Experience developing, reviewing or assuring investment cases, business cases or strategic proposals.
  • A sound understanding of investment, portfolio, programme or project management practices.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify gaps, risks, assumptions and dependencies.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear advice and recommendations for senior leaders and governance groups.
  • Strong relationship-management skills and the confidence to influence and constructively challenge stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a complex corporate and/or public sector environment.

The midpoint of the salary range is $131,914 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $112,127 to $158,297 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.

Join Ara Poutama Aotearoa - Department of Corrections, where your work will contribute to improving public safety, reducing re-offending, and address the overrepresentation of Māori in correctional facilities.
