Senior Physiotherapist - General Medicine

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced NZ Registered Physiotherapist to work within our General Medicine team based at Te Toka Tumai, Auckland City Hospital in a permanent, full time 1.0 FTE position. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist wanting to develop their leadership capabilities. In this role you will carry a clinical caseload, providing comprehensive and evidence-based care to General Medicine patients within the inpatient setting. In addition to your clinical caseload, you will play an active role in quality improvement within the General Medicine area, provide day to day coordination and leadership within the general medical team. This role works closely with our other acute medical specialities and you will have the opportunity to learn and work within AED/CDU, Haematology, Respiratory and Cardiothoracics.

Main roles and responsibilities:

  • Manage a clinical caseload while providing day-to-day coordination and support to a small team of core and rotational staff.
  • Drive quality improvement and service development within the area of General Medicine
  • Work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Providing clinical and operational leadership within the wider Physiotherapy Team Medical as required
  • Being prepared to take on delegated responsibilities from the Practice Supervisor as required
  • Participate in our weekend and on-call roster

About the Team

Our team is made up of passionate and supportive Physiotherapists motivated to improve the quality of life and health outcomes of the communities we serve. Our Acute Medical Team is led by a Practice Supervisor and consists of 19 staff working across AED/CDU, General Medicine, Respiratory, Cardiothoracics, Haematology and Oncology. Our wider Te Toka Tumai Physiotherapy team consists of 95.5FTE, working across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

About you

As the ideal person for this role you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • New Zealand registration as a Physiotherapist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Minimum 6 years clinical experience with 2-3 years experience working in General Medicine and the acute hospital setting
  • Demonstrate the ability to role model professional behaviours, fostering a positive team culture, strong work ethic, and high standards of clinical practice.
  • Experience in supporting and developing staff and students.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong collaborative relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Effective time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills.
  • A flexible, proactive, and solution-focused approach.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to provide culturally safe care in the acute hospital environment.
