Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Auckland City Hospital is seeking an experienced NZ Registered Senior Physiotherapist to join the Physiotherapy Critical Care team within the DCCM. The role offers permanent, full-time work (1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week) with a strong onboarding and supportive multidisciplinary environment.

You will lead a small team, manage a clinical caseload, contribute to quality improvement, and collaborate across units including ORL, CCU, and vascular ICU.

Qualifications

• NZ registration as a Physiotherapist with Annual Practicing Certificate.
• Minimum 6 years clinical experience with 2–3 years in critical care.
• Experience in tracheostomy weaning as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe care in acute hospital environments.

Responsibilities

• Manage a clinical caseload while providing day to day coordination and leadership for a small team
• Provide a comprehensive service to our DCCM patients and outreach services to the ward
• Play an active role in quality improvement, staff, and service development
• Work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary environment

About the Role We are looking for an experienced NZ Registered Senior Physiotherapist to work in our Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) as part of the Physiotherapy Critical Care team. This is an exciting and unique opportunity as DCCM is one of the leading critical care units in New Zealand which caters for a wide range of adult tertiary specialist areas including liver and renal transplant, neurosurgery, trauma, and respiratory conditions. This role also provides regular opportunity to work across Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive care unit, Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) ward and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) which are also covered by the Physiotherapy Critical Care Team. This role will also see you performing the below duties:

About the Team Our Critical care team is made up of 12 Physiotherapists, with 6 based in DCCM- An Advanced Clinician, 2 Senior Physiotherapists, 1 static Physiotherapist and 2 rotational Physiotherapists. About you As the ideal person for this role you will have the following skills and attributes:

• New Zealand registration as a Physiotherapist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
• Minimum 6 years clinical experience with 2-3 years experience working within critical care settings
• Experience in tracheostomy weaning as part of a multidisciplinary team
• A flexible and proactive approach
• Experience in supporting and teaching staff and students
• Effective communication and inter-personal skill
• Effective time management, prioritisation, and organisation skills
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how to provide culturally safe care in the acute hospital environment
