Job summary

Health New Zealand seeks an experienced Nurse Consultant / Anaesthetic Technician for a 0.6 FTE fixed-term role at Auckland City Hospital. The senior clinician will combine expert perioperative practice with leadership in equity, quality improvement and workforce development, focusing on intraoperative care.

You will lead safety initiatives, mentor staff, and embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into perioperative practice.

Qualifications

• Senior registered nurse (RN) or Anaesthetic Technician (AT) with perioperative expertise.
• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area required.
• Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, equity and culturally safe practice.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate expert intraoperative clinical practice and work in theatre.
• Lead and support quality and safety initiatives across perioperative services.
• Champion equitable access and outcomes for all patients, with focus on Māori health equity.
• Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into perioperative care and service design.
• Mentor perioperative staff and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Contribute to service planning, policy development, and clinical governance.
