Job summary

Fletcher Building is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Partner in Auckland. You will own end-to-end payroll processing and guide Payroll Partners, ensuring accurate, compliant and on-time pay runs for a large workforce.

You will collaborate with People & Performance and Finance, navigate NZ employment law and Holidays Act requirements, and drive continuous improvements across payroll processes in a high-volume environment. This role emphasizes accuracy, service, and stakeholder collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a high-volume payroll environment in New Zealand.
• Strong knowledge of NZ employment legislation and the Holidays Act.
• Experience interpreting Collective and Individual Employment agreements.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring pay runs are accurate and timely.
• Mentor Payroll Partners in day-to-day payroll activities.
• Collaborate with time and attendance systems, advise on pay rules and test changes.
• Maintain employee data and ensure payroll information is secure and accurate.
• Process payroll-related payments, deductions and KiwiSaver contributions.
• Perform month-end reconciliations, payroll reporting and year-end activities.
• Ensure payroll compliance across tax obligations, entitlements, Holidays Act requirements and controls.
• Resolve payroll queries professionally and promptly.
• Build relationships with People & Performance, Finance, FletcherTech and stakeholders to deliver great outcomes.
• Provide ad-hoc reporting and contribute to payroll projects and improvements.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Partner to join our team based in Auckland. In this role, you'll take ownership of end-to-end payroll processing while also providing day-to-day support and guidance to Payroll Partners, helping ensure our people are paid accurately, compliantly and on time, every time.

What You'll Be Doing

• Taking ownership of end-to-end payroll processing and ensuring pay runs are completed accurately and on time.
• Mentoring Payroll Partners with day-to-day payroll activities
• Working closely with time and attendance systems, providing guidance on pay rules, testing changes and ensuring configurations are accurate and effective.
• Maintaining employee data and ensuring payroll information is managed securely and accurately.
• Processing payroll-related payments, deductions and KiwiSaver contributions.
• Completing month-end reconciliations, payroll reporting and year-end activities.
• Managing payroll compliance across tax obligations, employee entitlements, Holidays Act requirements and payroll controls.
• Investigating and resolving payroll queries in a timely and professional manner.
• Building strong relationships with People & Performance, Finance, FletcherTech and business stakeholders to deliver great customer outcomes.
• Providing ad-hoc reporting and contributing to payroll projects and initiatives as required.
• Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and helping implement positive change across payroll processes.

About You

You'll bring significant payroll experience and be confident working in a dynamic environment where accuracy, compliance and customer service are critical.

Ideally, You'll Have

• 5+ years' experience in a high-volume payroll environment within New Zealand.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and the Holidays Act.
• Experience interpreting Collective and Individual Employment
• Strong understanding of payroll compliance, controls and employee entitlements.
• The ability to perform off-system payroll calculations and identify discrepancies.
• Experience maintaining compliance across end-to-end payroll processes.
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and numeracy skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to provide professional advice and support to stakeholders.
• A customer-focused mindset and a commitment to delivering service excellence.
• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and perform effectively under pressure.
• NZPPA certification (Level 3 or above) would be advantageous but not essential
