Qualifications

• 7+ years' experience in mechanical engineering consultancy with a focus on water & wastewater infrastructure.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience delivering mechanical design solutions for water/wastewater projects in New Zealand.
• Ability to lead mechanical packages or projects within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong technical leadership and mentoring capabilities.
• Practical, solutions-focused engineering mindset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pumping systems, pipework, valves, treatment plant equipment, ventilation systems, and associated mechanical assets.
• Undertake and review complex engineering calculations, designs, and technical assessments, providing expert technical advice to clients and project teams.
• Manage mechanical engineering inputs across projects, including scope definition, programme delivery, quality assurance, and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, schedules, and design documentation.
• Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders while representing CMP with professionalism and technical excellence.
• Support project delivery and business development activities, including proposals, fee estimates, and project planning.

The Opportunity

CMP Consulting Group is growing, and we are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Wellington team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects across New Zealand while providing technical leadership within a highly regarded multidisciplinary engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

About You

• 7+ years' experience in mechanical engineering consultancy, ideally with a strong focus on the water and wastewater sector.
• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proven experience delivering mechanical design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects within New Zealand.
• Demonstrated ability to lead mechanical packages or projects and work autonomously within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong technical leadership skills and a passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers.
• A practical and solutions-focused approach to engineering and problem solving.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage directly with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
