Job summary

CMP New Zealand is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join the Wellington-based water infrastructure team. The role focuses on delivering multi-disciplinary design for water assets, with opportunities for leadership and client engagement.

You will mentor younger engineers, collaborate with principal engineers, and contribute to projects across NZ and Australia within a dynamic, flexible, and hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years’ experience in civil engineering.
• Tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• Consulting experience in the water industry; other infrastructure sectors considered.
• Chartered (CPEng) or ability to obtain within CMP support timeframe.
• Ability to design and supervise across disciplines; work both in a team and independently.

Responsibilities

• Master planning through to conceptual, functional, detailed design and construction support for water assets.
• Lead design documentation and multi-disciplinary design coordination.
• Design-only and design & construct projects with construction partners.
• Build strong client relationships and deliver to client needs.
• Manage design projects and/or lead civil designs.
• Prepare technical drawings in 2D/3D to client specs and standards.
• Contribute to strategic direction of CMP based on experience and network.

Archway Recruitment has partnered with CMP New Zealand to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer to support the growth of their Wellington-based water infrastructure team.

CMP Consulting Group is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy specialising in water, wastewater and infrastructure projects across New Zealand and Australia. Backed by the ASX-listed Vysarn Group, CMP offers the opportunity to work on high-profile water infrastructure projects across the Tasman.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer, based in Wellington with water industry design experience to join our team in our Hutt Central office. In this role you will play a key part in developing technical solutions and delivering projects on a variety of long-term contracts for our valued clients across New Zealand and Australia.

As a versatile engineer, you will be able to pursue your interests in engineering, project management and client relationships, with opportunities for leading key client contracts and/or team leadership for the right candidate.

This role will require you to work with and train younger engineers on the job, whilst being supported by and learning from a group of Principal engineers who are leaders in the water industry. As such, your strong communication skills, including the ability to establish effective working relationships, will be critical to your success.

Key Responsibilities

• Master planning through to conceptual, functional, detailed design, and construction support of water assets – treatment plants, storages, pipelines and pump stations
• Appreciating client or project technical requirements, developing solutions and leading the preparation of multi-disciplinary design documentation
• Design-only and design & construct projects with construction partners
• Working directly with our clients to build strong relationships and deliver consistently to meet their needs
• Managing design projects and/or leading or reviewing civil designs
• Guiding preparation and/or preparing technical drawings in 2D and 3D to Client specifications and digital engineering standards
• Opportunity to have input into the strategic direction of CMP into the future by drawing on your experience, knowledge and contacts in the industry.

About You

• Minimum 7 years’ experience
• Tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering;
• Experience in civil engineering is required, with consulting experience in the water industry. Similar infrastructure industries will be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake civil design and work effectively across disciplines
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team as well as independently to budgeted hours and timeframes
• Chartered (CPEng) or ability to obtain these within an agreed timeframe (with CMP support)
