Job summary

Marine Industrial Design, based in New Zealand and part of Babcock Australasia, seeks an L3 Mechanical Design Engineer. Hybrid role with strong propulsion and mechanical design, leading projects and mentoring engineers.

You’ll develop designs for vessels, use INVENTOR and CAD tools, and coordinate with clients across NZ’s maritime sector from concept through delivery. You’ll deliver compliant, high-quality engineering solutions, lead reviews, manage technical risk, and contribute to shipbuilding

Qualifications

• Marine propulsion and mechanical systems design experience.
• Proficient in INVENTOR and CAD tools for 3D modelling.
• Strong engineering calculations and technical analysis skills.
• Ability to run feasibility studies and draft design specifications.
• Experience in project planning, budgeting and resource management.
• Proven technical leadership with mentoring capabilities.
• Experience managing client/stakeholder relationships.
• Excellent engineering report writing and QA practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical investigations and evaluate design options.
• Develop practical, compliant vessel design solutions from concept to delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead technical reviews with clients.
• Engage with stakeholders and manage project delivery milestones.
