Job summary

Auckland Council is seeking a Senior Library and Council Services Assistant for Birkenhead Library, Kaipātiki Local Board. An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Senior Library & Council Services Assistant in the Kaipātiki Local Board Libraries, based at Birkenhead Library. Birkenhead Library is a busy community library serving a diverse and vibrant community. Our library whānau is focused on caring for each other, our community, and our environment.

This 30-hour role is vital for connecting our communities and whānau with services and programmes in the Kaipātiki Local Board libraries. As well as serving customers and contributing to the day-to-day running of the library, you will also be developing relationships with community patrons and partners to deliver and promote our library services and programmes.

We are looking for a positive, community-minded, and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about digital literacy, community engagement and/or serving our diverse ethnic communities in the Kaipātiki area.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can confidently build and maintain relationships with stakeholders to develop, deliver, and promote services that empower the community.
  • Understands and uses technology with confidence, able to support customers to successfully use information resources and devices.
  • Works collaboratively with teams in the Kaipātiki Local Board sharing skills, knowledge and expertise.
  • Provides excellent customer service and enjoys providing high-quality day-to-day frontline library services.
  • Support planning and delivery of library events and programmes.
  • Is reliable, adaptable and fosters great relationships, positively influencing others within the team.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills with a strong people and empathy focus.
  • Has knowledge/understanding of Te Ao Māori or willingness to learn.

This role is salary band E, starting at $79,000.
