Job summary

Air New Zealand Limited is seeking a Tribe Lead (General Manager) Safety Assurance to steer the Enterprise Safety Management System and People Safety Management System with independent oversight and strategic leadership. You will report to the Chief Safety & Risk Officer and ensure systems remain fit for purpose in a dynamic regulatory environment.

This senior role carries CAANZ Senior Person responsibilities for SMS activities under Air New Zealand's AOC, guiding risk owners and leaders to

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in Aviation Safety Management Systems.
• Experience leading safety assurance and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to translate complex safety data into strategic insights.
• Proven track record in building trusted senior-level relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provide enterprise leadership for SMS and HSEW MS.
• Set strategic direction, policy, governance and risk frameworks.
• Lead independent Safety Assurance and regulatory monitoring.
• Ensure leaders have tools to identify and manage safety risk.
• Review Change and Risk Management Plans and assess controls.
• Develop safety analytics to identify emerging risks.
• Champion safety learning, Just Culture, and continuous improvement.
• Lead annual SMS Management Review and board governance forums.
• Maintain IOSA registration and coordinate assurance activities.
• Represent Air New Zealand with CAANZ and other authorities.
• Lead and develop a high performing Safety Assurance function.
