Forte Recruitment is assisting a national regulatory organisation to appoint a Senior Inspector – Trust Account Regulation in Christchurch. The role uses accounting, audit, or regulatory expertise to protect public trust through oversight of client trust accounts.

Based in a Christchurch office of about 20 people, you will conduct risk-based inspections, identify compliance gaps, prepare evidence-based reports, and engage with banks, regulators, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

• CA or Legal qualifications with practical accounting experience.
• Proven experience in audit, inspection, or regulatory compliance.
• Strong accounting, controls, and risk assessment knowledge.
• Confidence with audit systems, data tools, and Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work independently and travel as required.
• A current driver’s license - mandatory.

Responsibilities

Senior Inspector – Trust Account Regulation

Our client, a national regulatory organisation, is seeking an experienced audit, risk, or compliance professional to join its Inspectorate team.

This role uses your accounting, audit, or regulatory expertise to protect public trust through oversight of client trust accounts.

You will be based in a Christchurch office of around 20 people, working closely with one other team member in this function.

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct risk-based trust account inspections and review financial controls
• Identify compliance gaps, investigate issues, and assess risk
• Prepare clear, evidence-based reports and recommendations
• Engage with firms, financial institutions, and regulatory stakeholders
• Support regulatory tools, frameworks, and guidance

Backgrounds of interest:

• External or internal audit
• Regulatory compliance
• Banking risk or fraud
• Financial services inspection
• Investigations

Your key relationships will include Banks, SFO, Police, IRD, DIA and the Legal Profession.

What you will bring:

• Preferably CA or Legal qualifications with practical accounting experience
• Proven experience in audit, inspection, or regulatory compliance
• Strong accounting, controls, and risk assessment knowledge
• Confidence with audit systems, data tools, and Excel
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Able to work independently and travel as required

Practice Manager or trust account supervision experience is highly regarded. This role suits professionals who can work autonomously, exercise sound judgement, and confidently present findings in formal regulatory settings.
