Job summary
Waikato Hospital in Hamilton seeks an experienced Physician with specialist qualifications in Geriatric Medicine to join our Geriatric Medicine Service. The role offers a broad scope including emergency geriatric care, inpatient rehabilitation, clinics and specialist consultation across medical and surgical teams.
The team provides comprehensive geriatric assessment and manages frailty, cognition and complex conditions, with teaching and clinical governance integral to the role.
Qualifications
- Qualified physician with specialist credentials in Geriatric Medicine.
- Experience across acute, rehabilitation and outpatient geriatric care.
- Proven teaching/supervision of junior medical staff, trainees and allied health professionals.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine consultation across medical and surgical teams.
- Undertake comprehensive geriatric assessments including frailty, cognition and capacity.
- Oversee rehabilitation services to optimise recovery and function.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team and contribute to service development and governance.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement and education activities.
- Contribute to shaping Geriatric Medicine services across the Waikato region.
