Job summary

AECOM in Auckland is seeking a Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer to lead electrical design, instrumentation and controls work packages across diverse projects in the energy and industrial sectors.

You'll mentor team members, deliver drawings and specifications, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compliant and timely project delivery from concept through commissioning.

Grow your career in this Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer role within AECOM's Energy & Industrial team based in Auckland, New Zealand (NZ). In this role, you will be working on projects with a variety of scope, scale, site and technical complexities leading the delivery of Electrical design, instrumentation and controls related work packages. This role and project variety will provide the opportunity to develop your technical and project delivery abilities while also learning from AECOM's technical leaders with a focus across the energy transition and related industries.

You will be working in an established team, supporting the concept and detailed design of electrical, instrumentation, controls and related projects and work packages, including PLC controls, SCADA, lighting designs. You will also have significant mentoring and develop opportunities with the support provided by the other senior and technical leaders in this team. You will be able to build and grow your electrical, design and controls engineering, technical, delivery and consulting skills through the variety client types and sectors you will be working with throughout NZ and scope to support Australia based projects.

How you'll make a difference:

• Design and supervise production of drawings and specifications for complete electrical and automation systems including single line diagram, AC/DC schematics, field and panel control devices, lighting and SCADA for various processes and utility applications.
• Lead and deliver work packages across all project stages including concept and detailed design, through to commissioning, operations and ongoing site support.
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical aspects on project documentation produced in accordance with AECOM procedures, NZ regulations and clients' standards.
• Work with AECOM technical leaders, to submit work packages in a timely manner for technical verification working within AECOM's technical standards and processes.
• Liaising with team leads, project managers and project team members to deliver designs within allocated time, budget and required scope.
• Support project delivery through cost estimating, budgeting, scheduling input, contract administration, and field reviews during construction.
• Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including industrial, electrical, controls, automation, process and mechanical engineering teams as required.
• Provide input and support to client and stakeholder discussions as required, helping to complete drawings, designs and project deliverables.
• Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards throughout the project lifecycle.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering initiatives.
• Scope exists to support and mentor others in the team, developing others engineering, delivery and related skills.

This role is based in AECOM's Auckland office with the main Industrial Electrical team. Applications may be considered from the right candidate outside of this region.

The qualities that help you thrive:

• Experience in the design and delivery of electrical, instrumentation and controls related projects and work packages, ideally across all project stages including commissioning and ongoing site operations.
• Proven track record in design and production of documents for instrumentation, single line, control and communication system diagrams, as well as electrical and instrument location drawings, loop & schematic wiring diagrams, and control room projects.
• Expose to street and lighting design for infrastructure projects considering design requirements for energy efficiency, illumination and reflectiveness, utility, trenching and site location.
• Experience with low-voltage energy, industrial, transport and related projects for greenfield and brownfield sites.
• Excellent ability to build relationships across client, site, contractor and internal teams finding areas of agreement across competing technical requirements to enable
