Job summary

WM New Zealand is seeking a Senior Project Engineer - Electrical and Control Automation to lead electrical, controls and automation across capital projects. You will develop specifications, review designs and manage contractors, ensuring safe, compliant delivery from concept through commissioning.

You will drive reliability improvements, support PLC/SCADA/HMI systems, and collaborate with operations to optimise energy and performance across NZ sites. A NZ driver licence is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years in industrial, manufacturing, utilities or heavy industry environments.
• Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, switchgear and protection systems.
• Experience delivering electrical engineering projects and plant upgrades.
• Proven troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capability.
• Experience managing contractors, consultants and engineering service providers.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation (PLC/SCADA/HMI) and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical leadership for electrical, controls and automation systems across the business.
• Lead electrical aspects of capital projects from concept to commissioning and handover.
• Develop and maintain technical specifications, scopes of work, standards and design expectations.
• Review electrical designs, power distribution, PLC/SCADA/HMI and contractor deliverables.
• Lead reliability improvement initiatives for electrical assets.
• Conduct root cause analysis for significant plant failures with ops, maintenance and suppliers.
• Provide technical support for generators, switchgear, MCCs and instrumentation.
• Support automation improvements and control system integrations.
• Manage electrical contractors and equipment suppliers to ensure safe project delivery.
• Lead or support commissioning, testing, validation and handover activities.
