AUT is investing in the future of digital experiences through its AI Acceleration Centre, bringing together modern software engineering, cloud technologies and AI-assisted development to rapidly deliver innovative solutions across the University. We are looking for a Senior Developer to help design, build and enhance these solutions, working with modern technologies in a collaborative, Agile environment.
As a Senior Developer within AUT's AI Acceleration Centre, you'll play a key role in designing, building and enhancing the University's next generation of digital experiences. Working across modern web, mobile, cloud and integration technologies, you'll design and deliver scalable applications and AI-enabled solutions that improve how thousands of students and staff engage with AUT’s digital services.
You’ll collaborate closely with product owners, designers and fellow developers in an Agile environment, contribute to architecture and engineering standards, mentor other developers, and help embed AI-assisted development practices that enable high-quality, secure and maintainable software delivery.
If you’re the kind of person who isn’t afraid to try new things, explore bold ideas and inject real energy and passion into the entire university experience - you’ll fit right in.
This role is ideal for someone who combines solid technical depth with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset. You will be confident working across the full development lifecycle, from architecture and prototyping through to production delivery, support, and continuous improvement. You will also provide technical leadership within the team, helping guide good development practices, mentoring less experienced developers, and contributing to a high-performing engineering environment.
You’ll also provide technical leadership within the team, mentoring graduate, junior and intermediate developers through peer reviews, technical guidance and knowledge sharing while helping build engineering capability across the AI Acceleration Centre.
As a professional member of staff at AUT, you’ll help keep us moving forward. From improving our services and streamlining our systems to supporting the experiences of students and staff across our campuses. By working collaboratively, solving problems and driving practical improvements, you’ll play a vital role in helping us operate smoothly, raise our profile, and evolve what we do, every day.
You will bring an open, engaging, and collaborative approach, with the flexibility to respond to changing requirements, and actively contribute to a positive and collegial environment. You will demonstrate cultural humility, awareness, and respect when engaging with indigenous peoples and culturally diverse communities. Experience supporting indigenous, equity, or inclusion focused initiatives is highly desirable.
