Job summary

Stats NZ is seeking Senior Data Analysts for fixed-term roles across the Measuring a Modern Economy (MME) programme and Macroeconomic Statistical Delivery Branch in Wellington and Christchurch. You will lead forward-looking analytic work, embedding automation and AI, while improving data processes and statistical delivery.

You’ll operate in an agile environment, coach others, and contribute to high-quality, impactful statistics shaping New Zealand’s economy and policy decisions.

Qualifications

Qualifications or experience in economics, finance, statistics, or related field.
Proven end-to-end analytical or statistical project delivery.
Strong analytical capability with complex datasets.
Ability to operate with autonomy in ambiguity.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver complex analytical work end-to-end, from design through to release and continuous improvement.
Lead development of data, products, and processes — improving how analysis is done over time.
Analyze and integrate data across multiple sources to generate insights.
Design and embed scalable, efficient ways of working that improve quality and long-term capability.
Apply advanced judgment to interpret data and resolve complex issues in ambiguity.
Build trusted relationships, provide credible advice, and coach others.
