Job summary

Stats NZ is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead the development of reusable data products within the Code Modules team. The role focuses on delivering 15–30 new or upgraded code modules annually, while maintaining ~70 existing modules to support researchers and analysts across government and statistics production.

You will collaborate closely with the Principal Data Scientist and Technical Lead, contribute to QA improvements, documentation standards, and the transition of the Code Modules

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, OR, or a related field.
• Five+ years' experience in quantitative or qualitative research, analytics, data science, or statistical analysis.
• Strong SQL and R skills with ability to develop reusable analytical code and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain reusable data products for integrated data research and statistical production.
• Deliver 15 to 30 new or upgraded code modules each year across the portfolio.
• Maintain an existing library of ~70 modules and ensure fit-for-purpose value for users.
• Improve QA processes, documentation standards, and streamline development workflows.
