Job summary

Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa is seeking an experienced Principal Data Scientist to shape the future of code modules and integrated data research for official statistics. You will oversee design, development and governance, applying advanced judgement to data integration and platform transitions.

You will mentor teams, improve automation, and influence standards and tooling across the organisation to deliver high-quality data products for government and researchers.

Qualifications

• Extensive senior experience in data science or statistical leadership within large organisations.
• Proven ability to develop reusable data assets and documentation for analysts and researchers.
• Strong capability in data integration, QA, and platform transitions.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, stewardship and evolution of code modules and data assets.
• Mentor colleagues and promote best-practice in data product development and reuse.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to guide tooling, standards and technical approaches.
