Job summary
Airways New Zealand is seeking a Senior Backup Engineer for our Christchurch campus. You will ensure ongoing backup availability, recoverability and data protection across the organisation, sharing responsibility with the Principal Backup Engineer for platform capability.
You will monitor, test, and optimize backup and restore processes, work with VMware vSphere/Nutanix AHV environments, and contribute to infrastructure projects with input on backup design and resilience.
Qualifications
- 5+ years' enterprise infrastructure engineering experience.
- 3+ years with direct responsibility for enterprise backup, replication and disaster recovery.
- Experience with backup of virtualised workloads (VMware vSphere/Nutanix AHV).
- Experience with backup environments and recovery automation (PowerShell).
- Exposure to enterprise storage hardware (HPE StoreOnce/Alletra/Apollo) and air-gapped designs.
Responsibilities
- Daily monitoring and verification of backup and replication services.
- Schedule recovery testing and validation against defined RPO/RTO objectives.
- Resolve issues proactively and escalate where needed.
- Maintain health of backup environment and documentation.
- Plan and validate recovery testing against RPO/RTO targets.
- Provide design input for backup, recovery and retention in projects.
