Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children seeks two Senior Data Product Developers to join the Data Solutions team at the Wellington office. You will contribute to enduring data products, optimize the new data warehouse, and deliver reporting tools that empower kaimahi to support tamariki and whānau.

You’ll work across full data product lifecycles, engage with users, design and deploy robust BI reports, and collaborate in a supportive, inclusive culture that values curiosity and growth.

Qualifications

• Strong experience building data products and BI reporting.
• Proven ability to design scalable data models and dashboards.
• Experience with Databricks, PySpark, and modern data warehouses.

The Data Solutions team is responsible for enduring data products at Oranga Tamariki and is currently focused on creating data reporting solutions, optimising the use of our new data warehouse, and consolidating and streamlining legacy products. We're a strong, experienced, and tight-knit team that supports each other and works together to deliver results that really matter. We're looking for 2 capable Senior Data Product Developers with expertise in Databricks, AzureDevOps (CI/CD), and Power BI to join our flagship data products team! This role offers exciting opportunities to work with a modern technology stack and our new data warehouse. You will leverage your experience and skills to support the continued development of data products and be an active member of a high performing team delivering tools to help our kaimahi make a difference for tamariki, their whānau and communities.

As a Senior Data Product Developer, you will be part of our team of developers across the full lifecycle of data product development - we:

We're looking for strong collegial and collaborative team players who will be part of our expanding data community and wants to make a difference. Great communication and interpersonal skills are a must – you can learn technical skills, but it’s harder to learn the right attitude.

We're particularly interested in people with strengths in the following:

• A solid understanding of data ecosystems and how data flows through them
• Proficiency in DevOps principles and the implementation of CI/CD practices, preferably with Azure DevOps
• Proven experience with Databricks and data-focused languages - ideally SQL, M, DAX, and Python/PySpark
• Proven experience with star schemas or other data model designs
• Expertise in designing and building complex, performant, user-centric reports in Power BI or similar tools
• Experience of working in a continuous improvement culture
• Can be a team player, keeping work flowing and maintaining quality
• An understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices is important - In Particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples' culture.
