Job summary

Oranga Tamariki in Wellington is seeking an Analyst, Data Response to transform data into meaningful insights that support operational decisions, performance, and strategic priorities. You will work with experienced analysts on high-profile information requests and performance reporting while strengthening data governance and privacy practices.

The role involves extracting and analysing data, delivering high-quality analytics, and contributing to dashboards and automated reporting solutions;

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline.
• Experience using data and analytical tools to support reporting, research or business analysis.
• Experience using cloud analytics environments (Databricks or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of SQL and data querying/analysis.
• Experience with Python, R or similar languages.
• Experience with reporting/visualisation tools such as Power BI.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Understanding of data governance, privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality-assured data and analysis to support high-profile information requests (Official Information Act, Parliamentary Questions, ministerial correspondence).
• Extract, transform and analyse data from organisational systems and platforms.
• Produce analytical outputs, reports and insights that are accurate and timely.
• Support development and maintenance of dashboards, reporting products and automated reporting solutions.
• Identify data quality issues and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand information needs and support evidence-based decision-making.
• Maintain strong data governance and privacy practices.
• Document analytical methodologies and reporting processes.

As an Analyst, Data Response, you'll play a key role in transforming data into meaningful insights that support operational decision-making, organisational performance, and strategic priorities. Working alongside experienced analysts and performance specialists, you'll contribute to high-profile information requests, performance reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives that help shape better outcomes for children and young people.

You’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality analysis, reporting and data services, including:

• Providing quality-assured data and analysis to support Official Information Act requests, Parliamentary Questions, Ministerial correspondence and other high-profile information requests.
• Extracting, transforming and analysing data from organisational systems and platforms.
• Producing analytical outputs, reports and insights that are accurate, timely and fit for purpose.
• Supporting the development and maintenance of dashboards, reporting products and automated reporting solutions.
• Identifying data quality issues, trends and anomalies and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Working closely with business stakeholders to understand information needs and support evidence-based decision-making.
• Maintaining strong data governance, privacy and confidentiality practices.
• Documenting analytical methodologies, business rules and reporting processes.

Key requirements of the role include:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or a related discipline.
• Experience using data and analytical tools to support reporting, research or business analysis.
• Experience using Databricks or willingness and ability to quickly develop capability in cloud analytics environments.
• Working knowledge of SQL and experience querying and analysing data.
• Experience with Python, R or similar analytical programming languages.
• Experience with reporting and visualisation tools such as Power BI.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
• The ability to communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A learning mindset, curiosity and a drive for continuous improvement.
• Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ culture
