Job summary

Theta is seeking an experienced Lead Data Consultant to join the Data and Insights Practice, based in our Wellington or Auckland office. This role focuses on end-to-end data platform delivery, leading data pipelines, and implementing modern architecture patterns to meet measurable business outcomes.

You will work with client stakeholders, solution architects, and delivery teams to design and deliver reliable data platforms, with strong emphasis on reliability, performance, and governance across

Qualifications

• At least eight years of data engineering experience delivering enterprise-scale data platforms.
• Strong experience on Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, or Azure Synapse.
• Advanced SQL capability for transformations and modelling.
• Strong Python (including PySpark) ability.
• Experience with modern Lakehouse/warehouse concepts and medallion architectures.
• Git, CI/CD, DataOps, and testing framework experience.
• Clear stakeholder communication and technical leadership.
• Relevant Microsoft/Databricks/Snowflake certifications or ongoing development.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design and build of data pipelines and platforms.
• Mentor team members and promote coding standards and delivery confidence.
• Collaborate with architects and delivery teams on solution design and sequencing.
• Communicate progress, risks, dependencies and blockers to stakeholders and leadership.
• Contribute to reusable delivery assets, templates and documentation.
• Perform peer reviews and ensure robust deployment practices.
