Job summary

New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead design and delivery of enterprise data solutions. You will shape the data platform, guide engineering practices, and mentor engineers while driving analytics and AI initiatives.

Appointment salary is from NZD 133,632 to NZD 163,328 commensurate with skills and experience. Multiple permanent, full-time roles across NZTA offices.

Qualifications

• Significant experience designing, building and operating enterprise-scale data platforms and pipelines.
• Advanced SQL and Python skills with experience delivering on Databricks.
• Experience with modern cloud-based data platforms and lakehouse/medallion patterns.
• Proven capability delivering analytics, BI, ML and AI solutions.
• Experience applying DataOps, automation, observability and operational excellence.
• Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, security and compliance.
• The ability to influence stakeholders across squads and programmes.
• Experience managing technical debt while balancing delivery priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex delivery initiatives within the Data Chapter.
• Design and deliver modern data products and pipelines.
• Balance technical leadership with hands-on delivery to ensure fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Develop capability across the Data Community of Practice and coach engineers.
