Job summary

WorkSafe New Zealand is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and maintain data platforms and pipelines powering analytics, BI and AI initiatives across the organisation.

You will operate in a complex data environment, integrating multiple sources to deliver scalable, secure data assets and collaborating with analysts, data scientists and tech teams to maximise data value.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to design and deliver production-ready data platforms and pipelines.
• Strong capability in building ETL/ELT solutions across multiple and complex data sources.
• Hands-on knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and modern data architectures.
• Expertise in data quality, testing, monitoring, and performance optimisation.
• Relevant qualification in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with Azure data services such as Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric or equivalent platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Planning and Implementation is a new group established at WorkSafe to strengthen planning, coordination, and implementation across the organisation, particularly to improve how work is prioritised, sequenced, and supported through to delivery.

About The Role / Ō Te Tūranga

As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the data platforms and pipelines that power analytics, business intelligence, and AI across WorkSafe. You'll work in a complex data environment, integrating data from multiple sources and delivering scalable, secure, and reliable solutions that support organisational decision-making. This is an opportunity to solve challenging technical problems while helping WorkSafe maximise the value of its data assets.

Salary range / Awhe utu

As part of our remuneration framework, the full salary range for this position is $120,551-$158,328 with the expected appointment base salary $120,551 - $133,143 (KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contributions are additional). From 1 April 2026 our KiwiSaver employer contribution increased to 3.5%.
