Job summary

Datacom, NZ’s largest cybersecurity and connectivity services company, seeks a Senior AppSec Cybersecurity Consultant to lead application security initiatives, driving secure development and delivery across client environments.

You will be accountable for performance, development, and sustainability of our people within the AppSec division, with a focus on measurable outcomes and client success.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience in cybersecurity with 5+ years in application security.
• Experience leading and developing a team of professionals.
• Experience in service‑driven organisations with outcomes focus.
• Proven practice with DevSecOps and OWASP concepts.
• Strong communication with diverse customers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Drive planning, development and delivery of Datacom’s Application Security offerings.
• Lead and mentor the AppSec team and collaborate with Consulting and Operations.
• Advocate for secure development practices and emerging technologies.
• Engage with customers to translate security requirements into solutions.

About The Role

Using your cybersecurity expertise, you will join NZ’s largest cybersecurity and connectivity services company as part of a dedicated team, proud of delivering top of the range advice and guidance to our customers. As a Senior AppSec Cybersecurity Consultant in the Datacom business, your role will encompass responsibility for performance, productivity, development, and sustainability of our people. You will be accountable for providing services and solutions in all areas of Cybersecurity and Connectivity Services, with focus in particular on our Application Security division.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being the outcome advocate and has a passion for helping an organisation build secure applications as part of our Cybersecurity and Connectivity Services Team. We’re looking for passion, ambition, and a depth and breadth of Application security knowledge as well as the adaptability to ever changing market demands. The role is open anywhere in New Zealand, with a preference for where there is a Datacom office.

What You Will Do

• You’ll be a key player in the business through the promotion of innovation, service, and delivery enhancement and with a focus on future sustainability
• You’ll engage collaboratively with your internal teams, the wider business and our customers
• You’ll foster vendor relationships that support our Cybersecurity Technical service offerings delivered from both the Consulting and Operational teams and promote a culture of excellence
• You will help drive the planning, development, and implementation of Datacom’s Application Security offerings and services
• You will be passionate about Application Cybersecurity and emerging technology, business transformation, and solving customer challenges.

What You Will Bring

• You’ll have knowledge to a high degree of Cybersecurity technologies and ability to converse with a diverse range of customers.
• You will be a team player with experience leading and developing a team of professionals, either directly or indirectly
• You’ll have experience in an organisation driven by service, delivery, and outcomes
• You’ll have Technically focused Cybersecurity professional qualifications
• You’ll have practical working knowledge of DevSecOps, best practices in Application Security (such as OWASP) in order to walk the talk with our customers and lead the Appsec team
• You’ll have a strong interest in all things application security. In your past you may have been a penetration tester, a developer or a security consultant and looking for your next step in your Application security career.
• Ideally you would have at least 7+ years’ experience in cyber security of which 5+ years working with Application security.
• You may have presented at conferences or have achieved some relevant certifications to demonstrate your expertise
