Job summary

Southern Cross Healthcare is seeking a Principal Cyber Security Engineer in Auckland to lead cyber defence across Security Operations, threat detection, incident response, and security automation. You will mentor Security Operations Engineers and Analysts while shaping standards, priorities, and future investments.

The role covers cloud-native security, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, and AI-driven security technologies.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience across Security Operations, incident response, detection engineering and security engineering.
• Proven experience as a Principal Engineer, Lead Engineer or senior technical specialist.
• Experience building, strengthening and improving Security Operations capabilities.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM, XDR/EDR, SOAR and related security technologies.
• Knowledge of cloud-native environments, DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code.
• Advanced expertise in threat hunting, vulnerability management and incident response.
• Experience with automation, scripting and AI security governance.
• Familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK and modern cyber defence practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead Security Operations and incident response programs across large, enterprise environments.
• Drive threat detection, vulnerability management and security monitoring improvements.
• Oversee security engineering initiatives for cloud-native and IaC deployments.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and analysts.
• Lead complex responses to cybersecurity incidents, on-call when required.
• Define security standards, priorities and investment needs.
• Evaluate AI-driven security technologies and governance implications.
