Senior Cloud and Modern Workplace Engineer
Company and role: My client, a fast-changing organisation, is seeking a Senior Cloud and Modern Workplace Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. This is a broad role with both hands‑on and technical leadership duties, as well as heavy stakeholder management responsibilities internally and externally, and up to executive level.
Duties for the role include, but are not limited to:
- Provide senior technical leadership across Microsoft cloud, identity, security and modern workplace platforms, including Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Intune and Azure.
- Design, implement and support secure, resilient Azure IaaS/PaaS environments, including AVD and Microsoft security tooling like Defender for Endpoint.
- Support the Azure-based Modern Data Platform environment, ensuring strong identity, access, security and platform practices.
- Lead cloud onboarding and transformation initiatives from technical design through implementation, deployment and operational handover.
- Drive automation and continuous improvement, using scripting and AI-assisted tools to improve security, reliability, standardisation and operational efficiency.
- Ad-hoc duties
The candidate must have a background in the following:
- Significant experience in the Microsoft and Azure tech stack
- Recent hands‑on Entra ID experience
- Experience building and operating platforms across identity, modern workplace and security
- Strong vendor management experience
- Understanding/knowledge of IT controls and disaster recovery
- Mentorship of more junior staff, but previous line management experience not required
- Relevant Microsoft certifications
Preferred attributes include:
- Experience working in a small-to-medium sized organisation
- Experience working on an international scale
- Proven track record of success in the private sector
- Experience supporting Azure modern data platforms (especially Databricks) – operational support, maintenance, security and automation.
- Relevant tertiary degree
