Senior Cloud and Modern Workplace Engineer

Company and role: My client, a fast-changing organisation, is seeking a Senior Cloud and Modern Workplace Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. This is a broad role with both hands-on and technical leadership duties, as well as heavy stakeholder management responsibilities internally and externally, and up to executive level.

Duties for the role include, but are not limited to:

• Provide senior technical leadership across Microsoft cloud, identity, security and modern workplace platforms, including Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Intune and Azure.
• Design, implement and support secure, resilient Azure IaaS/PaaS environments, including AVD and Microsoft security tooling like Defender for Endpoint.
• Support the Azure-based Modern Data Platform environment, ensuring strong identity, access, security and platform practices.
• Lead cloud onboarding and transformation initiatives from technical design through implementation, deployment and operational handover.
• Drive automation and continuous improvement, using scripting and AI-assisted tools to improve security, reliability, standardisation and operational efficiency.

The candidate must have a background in the following:

• Significant experience in the Microsoft and Azure tech stack
• Recent hands-on Entra ID experience
• Experience building and operating platforms across identity, modern workplace and security
• Strong vendor management experience
• Understanding/knowledge of IT controls and disaster recovery
• Mentorship of more junior staff, but previous line management experience not required
• Relevant Microsoft certifications

Preferred attributes include:

• Experience working in a small-to-medium sized organisation
• Experience working on an international scale
• Proven track record of success in the private sector
• Experience supporting Azure modern data platforms (especially Databricks) – operational support, maintenance, security and automation.
• Relevant tertiary degree
