Job summary

Grant Thornton New Zealand seeks an experienced external auditor to lead engagements from planning to completion. You will work with Partners, Directors and clients across diverse sectors, ensuring high quality financial reporting and regulatory compliance.

The role requires mentoring junior staff and strong client interactions. You will analyze processes, assess controls, and communicate findings clearly while staying current with evolving standards in a collaborative, flexible working

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of external auditing experience.
  • Proficient with IFRS standards and auditing principles.
  • Experience using audit software and MS Office.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead a team of auditors and manage multiple engagements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. CA/CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage audit engagements from planning to completion.

About the role

You will work closely with experienced Managers, Directors and Partners across a variety of industry sectors, liaising directly with the clients and supervising more junior team members. You will build strong relationships with clients and ask questions that cut to the heart of their business to understand the risk, responding with technical expertise, intuition and insight.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead and manage audit engagements from planning to completion, ensuring compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements
  • Develop a detailed understanding of clients' business operations, processes, and financial reporting systems
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and identify areas for improvement
  • Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting principles
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support
  • Collaborate with clients to address their business challenges and help them achieve their objectives
  • Stay updated with the latest industry regulations and standards
About you
  • 3+ years of experience in external auditing
  • Proficient with IFRS standards
  • Strong knowledge of auditing principles, practices, and standards
  • Proficiency in using audit software and Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead a team of junior auditors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional certification (e.g., CA, CPA) is preferred
  • Solid organisation and time management
  • Experience managing multiple audits simultaneously
