Join us as a Senior Adviser, Investment Management, where you'll play an important role in how the FMA regulates and supervises Aotearoa's investment management sector. You'll contribute to our core regulatory activities across managed investment schemes, including KiwiSaver and non-KiwiSaver funds, as well as discretionary investment management schemes and derivatives issuers. Working across both planned supervision and reactive matters, you'll help identify emerging risks, assess conduct and compliance issues, and support proportionate, evidence-based responses.
A key aspect of the role is developing and applying technical expertise across the investment management sector, particularly in discretionary investment management services (DIMS) and derivatives issuers (DI). You will contribute to building depth of capability in these areas within the team, supporting effective supervision and regulatory decision-making.

You'll bring strong industry experience within investment management, regulatory, risk, compliance, or professional services sectors. A solid understanding of management investment schemes, including KiwiSaver, and the broader regulatory landscape is highly advantageous.
Ideally, you will bring experience in, or exposure to, discretionary investment management services and/or derivatives issuers, and be motivated to build strong technical expertise in these areas as part of your role. You're confident acting as a trusted technical adviser, able to evaluate complex issues, form evidence-based conclusions, and provide advice that stands up to scrutiny.
You're a critical thinker who's comfortable working with ambiguity. You can quickly get across unfamiliar issues, analyse information objectively, and adjust your thinking as new evidence emerges. Your curiosity and learning agility mean you stay on top of regulatory, legislative, and market developments, and you actively look for opportunities to improve regulatory practice and industry outcomes.
We offer a comprehensive range of benefits, including:
At the FMA, we're committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work. We also offer a range of wellness and social activities to support both personal and professional wellbeing and help our people genuinely connect with one another.
