Job summary

New Zealand Government in Picton is seeking experienced Class 5 Drivers to join a major civil construction programme starting January 2027. You will operate truck and trailer units across busy sites and quarries, transporting materials safely and efficiently.

Ideal candidates hold a full Class 5 licence, Civil construction driving experience, and Site Safe/ConstructSafe certification. You will reverse and manoeuvre trailers, work confidently around heavy machinery, and be reliable to work

Qualifications

• Must hold a full NZ Class 5 licence with civil construction driving experience.
• Confident operating Road Ranger gearboxes on busy sites.
• Experience reversing truck and trailer units in quarry/civil environments.
• Site Safe or ConstructSafe certification required (assistance available).
• Reliable, safety-conscious and able to work independently.

Job description

We're seeking experienced Class 5 Drivers to join a major civil construction project in Picton, commencing January 2027.

We're looking for confident drivers who have experience working in busy civil environments and are comfortable operating truck and trailer units across construction sites and quarries.

ABOUT THE ROLE

• Operating Class 5 truck and trailer units
• Transporting materials to and from civil construction sites
• Working in and out of quarries
• Reversing and manoeuvring truck and trailer combinations
• Operating safely around heavy machinery and site personnel

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Full Class 5 licence
• Proven civil construction driving experience
• Confident operating Road Ranger gearboxes
• Experience reversing truck and trailer units
• Confident with jack-knifing manoeuvres
• Previous quarry and construction site experience
• Site Safe or ConstructSafe required – assistance with Site Safe can be provided
• Reliable, safety-conscious and able to work independently

WHAT'S ON OFFER

• $34–$36 per hour, depending on experience
• Long-term work on a 12-month project
• January 2027 start
• Opportunity to work across a major civil construction programme

This role is based in Picton. Accommodation, travel, living-away and relocation allowances are not currently provided. Applicants must be able to arrange their own travel and accommodation if relocating for this position.
