Job summary

Autism New Zealand is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the financial records, reporting, and annual audit. The role includes grant applications, tenancy management for Equity House, and improving financial systems.

The position is part-time (30 hours) and based in Wellington region. The successful candidate will have extensive accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and expertise with MYOB EXO, Dataline and ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • Over five years accounting experience.
  • Proficient in MYOB EXO, Dataline, iPayroll, Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft BI.
  • Experience with grant applications and statutory reporting is preferred.
  • Experience preparing monthly reconciliations and financial statements.

Responsibilities

  • Financial reporting management and monthly close processes.
  • Prepare journals and reconciliations; develop dashboards.
  • Manage grant applications, reporting and accountable submissions.
  • Tenancy management administration for Equity House housing.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Senior Accountant is the person responsible for supporting the effective management of the financial records of internal and external financial reporting, analysis, reconciliations and the annual audit.

The Senior Accountant is also responsible for:

  • Preparation of grant applications and accountabilities.
  • Tenancy management administration for housing for autistic tenants through Equity House
  • Supporting streamlining, automating and improving financial systems and processes.
HOURS OF WORK

This is a part-time, permanent position (30 hours).

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Financial reporting management
    • Prepare and post journals.
    • Prepare monthly financial and integrated reports including reconciliations.
    • Prepare agreed monthly analysis and dashboards on key performance indicators.
    • Support the Finance Manager in ensuring issues or budget variances are highlighted to the Business and Finance Director.
    • Support the preparation of financial records and financial statements for year-end audit.
    • Support the completion of contractual reporting on time.
    • Support the improvement of financial processes and systems for efficiency and automation.
  2. Funding management
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all grant-related activities, including applications and reporting.
    • Prepare and submit grant applications, accountabilities, and other documentation including narrative and non‑financial information as required.
    • Ensure applications and accountabilities are submitted on time.
    • Identify and research new grant funding opportunities that align with the organisation's priorities
  3. Tenancy management
    • Monitor tenant payments.
    • Maintain supplier, tenant, lease, and deeds register records.
    • Build and maintain strong, professional tenant relationships.
    • Liaise with tenants, tradespeople, and service providers.
    • Coordinate and follow up on property maintenance and repairs.
    • Maintain accurate property files and documentation.
    • Update property management software
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge, skills and experience

Over five years accounting experience

In-depth knowledge of MYOB EXO, Dataline, iPayroll, Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft BI

Knowledge of property management software (experience beneficial but not essential)

Experience in preparing grant applications and accountabilities.

Experience preparing monthly reconciliations

Highly competent in Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced)

Effective organisational and prioritising skills

Excellent time-management, and project management skills

Excellent communication and relationship skills – the ability to relate well to a wide range of people: staff, families, teachers, agencies, professionals, grant funders and suppliers

Able to handle information sensitively and confidentially

Strong awareness of broad principles of ethics

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Linking the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to all aspects of service provision and the operations of Autism New Zealand.
