ACG Strathallan in Auckland seeks a Design & Technology Teacher to support Year 7–13 students’ creative and technical development, delivering IGCSE, AS and A2 Design & Technology under Cambridge International curriculum. Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher with NZ registration and education degree.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Design & Technology Teacher at an ACG College plays a vital role in supporting Year 7 to 13 students’ creative and technical development throughout their educational journey offering students IGCSE, AS, A2 Design and Technology.

This position involves delivering high‑quality instruction in Design Technology, aligned with the Cambridge International curriculum, while fostering problem‑solving, innovation, and hands‑on skills.

The teacher will inspire academic excellence, encourage curiosity, and nurture students’ confidence in both design thinking and practical application. Through engaging, workshop‑based learning, effective assessment practices, and strong pastoral support, the teacher ensures that every student is empowered to reach their full potential—academically, creatively, and personally.

The role also contributes actively to the broader school community.

This is a full-time permanent position commencing Term1, 2027.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver engaging teaching and assessment programs aligned with curriculum requirements, college policies, and schemes of work.
  • Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and participate in ongoing professional development and performance review processes.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and effective learning environment that supports student achievement.
  • Integrate educational technology effectively to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Prepare high-quality teaching resources, assessment materials, and learning activities.
  • Assess and monitor student progress accurately, maintaining clear records and providing timely feedback.
  • Set meaningful homework, projects, and extension activities to support independent learning.
  • Manage student behaviour consistently while promoting high standards of conduct and wellbeing.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and complete required administrative, attendance, and reporting responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the College through pastoral care, tutor responsibilities, Open Days, and school events.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • Strong capability in technical drawing, including visual communication and design documentation.
  • Experience with woodwork, metal work, CAD design / 3D printing, laser cutting, would be desirable.
  • Competency in health and safety within a practical workshop environment, ensuring safe and compliant teaching practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate and supervise the safe use of tools and machinery, including hand tools, band saws, and laser cutters.
  • Experience with the Cambridge curriculum is advantageous, though not essential.

Qualifications
  • A recognised teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or equivalent.
  • Candidate should hold New Zealand Teacher Registration
Additional Requirements
  • Undertake a New Zealand police check prior to commencing the position
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining New Zealand teaching accreditation.
  • Assist with duties including break time supervision
  • A willingness to attend school events outside regular hours as required (e.g., performances, parent‑teacher interviews, etc.).
