Job summary

Scenic Hotel Te Pania on Napier's waterfront is seeking a Seasonal Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. You’ll work alongside an experienced crew, prepare quality dishes with fresh ingredients, and gain hands-on experience in a busy hotel kitchen.

This is a full-time fixed-term role with an immediate start through to end of March 2027. Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week on a rotating roster, including weekends, with pay rates of $25–$26 per hour.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years experience in a similar role is required.
• NZQF Level 4 or higher in Cookery.
• Current Food Handling Certificate.
• Strong passion for food and a desire to learn.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality dishes.
• Ensure food is served and stored at correct temperatures per standards.
• Clean and sanitise work areas, equipment, utensils and dishes.
• Follow all sanitation and hygienic food handling procedures.
• Support the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef in daily kitchen tasks.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
