Job summary

NWT is seeking two friendly, reliable Seafood Assistants for part-time roles in our Wellington supermarket. In this hands-on position, you will prepare, display, and sell fresh seafood; work closely with the department manager to keep the seafood area clean, stocked, and inviting, while upholding food safety standards.

You will handle seafood with care, assist customers, and support the Butchery team when required.

Qualifications

• Strong work ethic and commitment to excellent customer service.
• Comfortable with repetitive motions and lifting up to 15 kg.
• Able to adapt to chillers and ambient environments.
• Maintain high standards of presentation and cleanliness.
• Follow store procedures and health & safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation and presentation of fresh seafood displays.
• Receiving seafood deliveries and ensuring products are handled, stored, and displayed correctly.
• Monitoring product quality and freshness, rotating stock as needed.
• Ensuring seafood cases are full, clean, and attractively presented at all times.
• Following food safety and hygiene standards and maintaining a clean work environment.
• Providing excellent customer service by assisting shoppers with seafood selection and questions.
• Performing manual handling tasks, including lifting seafood boxes up to 15kg, and replenishing displays.
• Assisting in the Butchery department when needed.

In this hands‑on role, you’ll be involved in the preparation, display, and sale of fresh seafood. Working closely with the department manager, you’ll help ensure our seafood section is always clean, well‑stocked, and inviting. Your attention to detail and commitment to food safety will help us maintain the highest standards of quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assisting with the preparation and presentation of fresh seafood displays.
• Receiving seafood deliveries and ensuring all products are handled, stored, and displayed correctly.
• Monitoring product quality and freshness, removing any items past their best, and rotating stock as needed.
• Ensuring seafood cases are full, clean, and attractively presented at all times
• Following food safety and hygiene standards at all times and maintaining a clean work environment.
• Providing excellent customer service by assisting shoppers with seafood selection, preparation advice, and answering questions.
• Performing manual handling tasks, including lifting seafood boxes (up to 15kg) and replenishing displays as required.
• Assisting in the Butchery department when needed.

There are two part-time positions: Position One: Sunday - Wednesday 2:30 pm - 8:00 pm, Position Two: Thursday - Saturday 2:30 pm - 8:00 pm, totalling 20 hours per position per week. Flexibility will be required to meet key business needs. Please note we do not have staff parking. However, the main Bus and Train stations are located a 5-minute walk from the store.
