Job summary

Wellington SCL, owned by Awanui Group, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Core Laboratory in Wellington. This permanent, full-time role involves 80 hours per fortnight, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, quality and customer service.

The successful candidate will perform barcoding, specimen preparation, data entry and handle enquiries, while working independently and within a team. Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and an Annual Practising

Qualifications

• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Responsibilities

• Barcoding, receipting, and preparing specimens as they arrive at the laboratory.
• Entering patient and test details accurately into the system.
• Answering telephones and handling enquiries professionally.
• Work well under pressure and manage competing priorities.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a high degree of accuracy.
• Be willing to learn new skills and adapt to changing procedures.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

Our Core Laboratory department is on the lookout for a passionate and capable Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dynamic team in Wellington. This is a permanent, full-time position, working 80 hours per fortnight.

You will be willing to learn new skills, work well alone and as part of a team. Extremely well-organised, detail-oriented, and friendly with a strong focus on quality and customer service. The successful applicant must have a high degree of accuracy and be self-sufficient to excel in this role.

• A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment

• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
• A sound knowledge of laboratory operations including safety, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
