Job summary

Awanui Labs in Auckland is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Haematology Department on a permanent full-time basis, based at Mt Wellington. You will be part of a modern, well-equipped laboratory delivering routine and specialist haematology testing using automated analysers.

Qualifications

• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council and an APC are desirable but not essential.
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialised haematology testing in accordance with laboratory protocols.
• Operate and maintain automated analysers and laboratory equipment.
• Assist with specimen processing and result verification.
• Support quality assurance, quality control, and accreditation standards.
• Participate in troubleshooting, workflow management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with scientists, technicians, and clinical staff to deliver timely and accurate results.
• Contribute to training and professional development within the department.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

We are seeking a motivated Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Haematology Department in Mt Wellington, Auckland. This is a permanent, full-time role (80 hours per fortnight) within a modern, well-equipped laboratory that provides a broad range of routine and specialist diagnostic testing using the latest automated technologies.

We are currently recruiting for one technician on rotating shift to support our 24/7 service delivery. Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and specialised haematology testing in accordance with laboratory protocols.

To be successful in this role you need to have:

• A methodical approach and commitment to following strict quality procedures.
• A strong team ethic, initiative, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• The ability to make swift and informed decisions in a high-throughput, deadline-oriented environment.
• Hands-on practical experience and a sound knowledge of laboratory operations including safety and operation of equipment.
• Excellent attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
• Previous experience in a Haematology laboratory (desirable).
• Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Technician is a desirable, but not essential.
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
