Job summary

Kelston Girls' College is seeking an experienced School Guidance Counsellor to join the Hauora team, delivering student-centred counselling and responsive pastoral support for rangatahi navigating personal, social, and emotional challenges in a culturally safe environment.

The role involves confidential counselling, risk assessment, crisis intervention, collaboration with the pastoral team and leadership, and liaison with whānau and external services.

Qualifications

• Tertiary counselling qualification and NZAC registration (full or provisional).
• Experience with adolescents in education or community youth mental health.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and restorative practice.

Responsibilities

• Deliver confidential one-on-one counselling for ākonga.

This role delivers student-centred counselling and responsive pastoral support, helping rangatahi navigate personal, social, and emotional challenges within a culturally safe, restorative environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering confidential one-on-one counselling for ākonga.
• Managing student risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis intervention.
• Collaborating with our pastoral team, including Kaimanaaki, and senior leadership.
• Liaising with whānau and external specialist support services.
• Contributing to school-wide wellbeing initiatives grounded in Te Whare Tapa Whā.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• A recognised tertiary counselling qualification and current NZAC registration (full or provisional).
• Experience working with adolescents in education or community youth mental health.
• High empathy, sound clinical judgment, and strict adherence to professional ethics.
• A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and restorative practice.

Funded clinical supervision is provided.
