Job summary

Marlborough Girls' College in Marlborough, NZ, is seeking a skilled Guidance Counsellor to join our pastoral team and support ākonga to build resilience, wellbeing and positive connections.

You will provide professional counselling to students, whānau and staff, work within the NZAC Code of Ethics and Teaching Council Standards, promote wellbeing through a strengths-based approach, and collaborate with mana whenua and the wider community.

Qualifications

• A recognised counselling qualification (Diploma or Master’s level).
• Current or eligible NZAC membership.
• Teaching Council registration or eligibility for a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT).
• Experience supporting young people, including risk assessment and crisis response.
• Cultural competence and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Strong communication, relationship-building and collaboration skills.

For a suitably qualified and experienced candidate, the role may include Head of Guidance responsibilities, with remuneration of 2 Middle Leadership Units (2MU) and 1 Middle Management Allowance (1MMA).

About the role

You will provide professional counselling and pastoral support to students, whānau and staff, working within the NZAC Code of Ethics and Teaching Council Standards. The role promotes student wellbeing through a strengths-based approach, supports Te Whare Tapa Whā as a model of hauora, encourages restorative practice, and strengthens partnerships with mana whenua and the wider community.
