Job summary

Waiau Area School in Southland is seeking a qualified school counsellor (0.6 FTE) to support student wellbeing across Years 1–13 from Term 1, 2027. The successful applicant will provide individual and group counselling and contribute to pastoral systems, building strong, trusting relationships with students, whānau and staff.

Essential: Counselling qualification, NZAC membership (or working towards), experience with children and young people, strong communication and confidentiality.

We seek a qualified and compassionate school counsellor (0.6 FTTE) to support the wellbeing of students across Years 1–13 from Term 1, 2027. The successful applicant will provide individual and group counselling, contribute to pastoral systems. We are looking for a counsellor who can build strong, trusting relationships with students., whānau, and staff, and who brings a calm, professional approach to supporting young people with a wide range of social, emotional, behavioural, and wellbeing needs.
