Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Collect water and wastewater samples across Auckland.
  • Conduct field testing and record results accurately.
  • Prepare and maintain sampling equipment and vehicles.
  • Calibrate field testing equipment and enter data into LIMS or lab systems.
  • Support QA standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Identify anomalies and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Participate in an on-call roster when required.

He whakamąrama mŊthanga te tūranga mahi | About the role

As a Sampling Technician, you’ll play a critical role in helping Watercare maintain the quality and safety of Auckland’s water and wastewater systems. You’ll collect and field test water samples from a range of locations across Auckland, ensuring samples are gathered, handled and delivered accurately to support regulatory compliance, public health, and operational performance. This is a hands-on role that combines fieldwork, laboratory support, and customer service. No two days are the same as you travel across the region collecting samples from drinking water, wastewater, environmental, and groundwater sites.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collecting water and wastewater samples across Auckland.
  • Conducting field testing and accurately recording results.
  • Preparing and maintaining sampling equipment and vehicles.
  • Calibrating field testing equipment and entering data into laboratory systems.
  • Supporting quality assurance standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Identifying and escalating anomalies and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participating in an on-call roster when required.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • A science-related qualification or interest in science.
  • Experience in field sampling, environmental monitoring, or laboratory environments.
  • Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
