Job summary

ALS Environmental – Casual Opportunity in Christchurch, NZ is seeking a reliable Sample Receipt / Laboratory Technician to join our Environmental team. This is a great entry point to gain hands-on laboratory experience in a fast-paced, supportive environment.

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, you will register and log samples in the LIMS, prepare basic samples, maintain accurate records, and help keep the workspace safe, clean and well organized.

Qualifications

• Secondary school qualifications with science subjects or relevant laboratory experience.
• Good computer literacy and accurate data entry skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality and clean working environment.

Responsibilities

• Receiving, registering, labelling, and logging samples into LIMS.
• Preparing sample documentation and maintaining accurate records.
• Performing basic sample preparation (drying, sieving, weighing, packaging).
• Ensuring proper storage, handling and disposal of samples.
• Maintaining clean, organized and safe laboratory spaces.
• Assisting staff with routine operational activities.
• Following QA/QC and workplace safety procedures at all times.

About the Role

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, your key responsibilities will include:

• Receiving, registering, labelling, and logging samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Preparing sample documentation and maintaining accurate laboratory records.
• Performing basic sample preparation activities, including drying, sieving, weighing, and packaging samples.
• Ensuring samples are handled, stored, and disposed of in accordance with laboratory procedures.
• Maintaining clean, organised, and safe laboratory workspaces.
• Cleaning laboratory equipment and sample preparation areas as required.
• Assisting laboratory staff with routine operational activities.
• Following quality assurance, quality control, and workplace safety procedures at all times.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Secondary school qualifications with science subjects or relevant laboratory experience.
• A basic understanding of laboratory practices.
• Good computer literacy and accurate data entry skills.
