Job description

Join our Tauranga workshop, diagnosing, repairing and testing some of the most advanced robotic products on the market!

21st August, 2026

Ever wanted to crack open a robot, diagnose the fault, and get it running again? Here, that's just Tuesday.
Our Tauranga store's workshop is growing, and we're looking for a hands-on Robot Technician to join the team, keeping our robotic mowers, vacuums and pool cleaners running exactly as they should.
No commercial or robotics background needed - some of our best technicians came from hobby workshops and passion projects (think home robotics builds, or even backyard fighting robots)! What matters is real technical aptitude and a love of figuring out how things work.
Why Robomate
We're one of New Zealand's fastest growing companies (named 5th in Deloitte's Fast 50 in 2025), but don't let the growth fool you - we're not your average company, and this isn't your average technician role either. We've grown into a nationwide team of around 50 (with a brand-new office across the ditch in Australia), and our proudest product - robotic mowers - is now genuinely some of the best in the world. Technicians play a real part in why customers trust the brand - you're one of the people making sure every repair lives up to it.
Despite all that growth, we're still as grassroots and hands-on as the day we started. If you like the idea of joining a business focused on growing without losing its roots, this is your opportunity.
Our Role
This role has two sides to it: the robot tech side - diagnosing, repairing and testing our robotic mowers, vacuums and pool cleaners - and the customer support side, helping in-store customers troubleshoot issues and handling the supplier comms, warranties and spare parts that keep everything running smoothly.
On the robot tech side, you'll:

  • Diagnose and repair robotic and smart-home products, and test them thoroughly before and after any repair, recording what you find along the way.
  • Occasionally head out to a customer's property for hands-on troubleshooting.

On the customer support side, you'll:

  • Help customers and colleagues in-store work through technical product issues.
  • Liaise with suppliers on repairs, warranty claims, technical queries and parts orders.
  • Keep on top of our spare parts inventory, including raising purchase orders when stock's needed.
  • Register warranty claims, and manage replacements for robots that can't be repaired.
  • Look for ways to improve how we service, support and repair - if you spot a better way of doing something, we want to hear it.
About you
You're curious about how things work, and you get real satisfaction from diagnosing a problem and actually fixing it - not just patching it over.

You'll be a strong fit if you bring:
  • Technical aptitude with electronics or mechanical work - think motors, circuit boards and moving parts - whether that's from experience or just being naturally handy. No commercial robotics background needed; what matters most is a genuine knack for figuring things out.
  • Good communication - you can explain a technical issue in plain English to a customer or colleague who isn't technical.
  • A methodical, detail-focused approach, and pride in doing the job right the first time.
  • A team player who's just as comfortable working independently on a problem.
  • A full NZ driver's licence, for the occasional off-site job.
  • Some of our robots pack some serious weight, so you'll need to be comfortable lifting up to 30kg.
This is a full-time role based at our Tauranga store, Monday to Friday.

Why join us?
  • Real impact you can see - every fix you make gets someone's robot back out doing its job.
  • A tight-knit, supportive team culture that works together rather than in silos.
  • Genuinely cutting-edge technology - you'll be pulling apart some of the most advanced robotic products on the market.
  • Real room to grow as the business does, with more products and more responsibility to take on as we scale.
Real, personalised cover letters will be prioritised - we value the human behind the CV, and we'll personally get in touch with strong applicants as they come in,
