Job summary

Five Elements Coffee, a specialty coffee roastery, is seeking a Roastery Barista & Coffee Operations Assistant. This hands-on role blends barista work, customer support, deliveries and daily roastery tasks.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent barista experience in a busy cafe.
• Strong espresso knowledge and milk-texturing skills.
• Interest in roasting, production and coffee quality beyond the café.
• NZ Driver licence and ability to deliver in an automatic vehicle.
• Able to lift cartons and manage deliveries safely.
• Reliable, proactive, friendly and detail-oriented.
• Eligible to work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso and milk-based beverages for tastings, training and customers.
• Support tastings, recipe development, quality checks and barista training.
• Assist roastery team with packing, labeling, order preparation, dispatch and production tasks.

Roastery Barista & Coffee Operations Assistant

Five Elements Coffee is looking for an experienced barista who wants to take the next step beyond the coffee machine. This is a varied, hands-on role combining barista work, customer support, deliveries and day-to-day assistance in our working coffee roastery. You will initially be based at our Penrose roastery. In February 2027, the operation is planned to move to a new Auckland CBD location, creating an exciting opportunity to grow with the business and help shape the next stage of Five Elements Coffee.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing consistently excellent espresso and milk-based beverages for tastings, training and customers
• Supporting coffee tastings, recipe development, quality checks and barista training
• Assisting the roastery team with packing, labelling, order preparation, dispatch and general production tasks
• Delivering coffee and related products to our suburban and Auckland CBD cafés
• Building positive relationships with store teams and responding professionally to day-to-day coffee needs
• Keeping coffee, training, packing and storage areas clean, organised and ready for use

About you

• At least two years of recent barista experience in a busy, quality-focused café
• Strong espresso knowledge, milk-texturing skills and confidence dialling in grinders
• A genuine curiosity about roasting, production and coffee quality beyond the café bar
• A full, clean New Zealand driver licence and confidence driving an automatic delivery vehicle
• Physical fitness and the ability to safely handle cartons and coffee deliveries
• Reliability, initiative, attention to detail and a friendly, practical approach
• Current legal right to work in New Zealand
