Job summary

Higgins in Mount Maunganui is seeking a Road Maintenance Labourer to join the IDC with NZTA, performing hands-on road maintenance, repairs, and emergency response across the Western Bay of Plenty.

This permanent, full-time role offers a guaranteed 40 hours per week, KiwiSaver benefits, and opportunities to upskill, with safety-first culture and supportive team.

Qualifications

• Must have full Class 1 license and experience in road maintenance or similar outdoor environments.
• Ability to operate tools, equipment and small plant safely.
• Strong commitment to health and safety and teamwork.
• Endorsements (Class 2, 4, WTR) or Mobile STMS qualifications are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general road maintenance and repair works.
• Complete drainage, pothole, crack sealing and pre-seal repairs.
• Assist with vegetation control and roadside maintenance.
• Operate tools, equipment and small plant.
• Participate in an on-call roster for incident and emergency response.
• Complete daily records and reporting using mobile technology.

Job description

We are seeking a Road Maintenance Labourer (Cyclic Crew Member) to join the Higgins team on the Integrated Delivery Contract (IDC) with NZTA, covering the Western Bay of Plenty.

Based from our Mount Maunganui branch, you'll help maintain and improve the local roading network through a variety of maintenance, repair and emergency response activities. This is a hands-on outdoor role offering plenty of variety and the opportunity to work across some of the Waikato's most scenic locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general road maintenance and repair works
• Complete drainage, pothole, crack sealing and pre-seal repairs
• Assist with vegetation control and roadside maintenance
• Operate tools, equipment and small plant
• Participate in an on-call roster for incident and emergency response
• Complete daily records and reporting using mobile technology

What You'll Bring

• Full Class 1 Driver Licence
• Experience in road maintenance, civil construction, infrastructure or a similar outdoor environment
• Confidence using tools, equipment and small plant
• Strong commitment to health and safety
• Reliable, practical and able to work well as part of a team
• Class 2, 4, WTR endorsements or Mobile STMS qualifications are advantageous
